A Town Celebrates Its Birthday

September 18th, I awakened to the sound of trucks roaring into the plaza. The carnival was in town.

Kids, big ones and little ones watched in awe as the carnies set up very new, shiny rides.

Flying chairs, roller coaster, bumper cars, little chairs and swans. Everyone planned how much grivna she could spend.

The glorious fall weather brought the crowds out in force two days before the 21st.

The only game of chance was this ring toss on bottles of liquor and was it popular!

The lights stayed on (for the most part) and the music played late for a week as the community enjoyed its last big celebration of the summer.

Sunday was here. The fountain was turned on; bands played; speeches were given; a flower show, dancing, fireworks and the opening of the new ponds and fountains in the sculpture garden rounded out the celebration.

Sunday was a day of  blessing of the Christ sculpture moved from the garden to the end of memorial park by the Russian Orthodox Church community here in procession.
