Our first safari in Ranthambhore began from this Rajasthani Tourist Motel.
Not high class but comfortable and the service was great! Monkeys played
in the courtyards and behind the rooms. The manager stepped out just as I
snapped Maggie, Amit and Amy.
|
We often relaxed and snacked like Maggie here on this clay court just
outside the dining room. Notice the painting on the court. Very typical of
Rajasthani area.
|
In the early morning, before the afternoon safari, we climbed the mountain
to visit Fort Ranthambhor. The fort is 1000 years old and stands at a
height of 705 feet.
|
The gates to the cities always amazed me with their strength, their beauty
and the ingenuity of their builders. This is an example of Hindu
architecture.
|
|
The fort is home for a monkey temple and sure enough just as I reached the
first level, this old guy was keeping watch.
|
This is a shrine to the monkey god. The monkey's are fed here. The white
substance on the floor appears to be some type of milled grain.
|
|
Every fort has a lake or reservoir and this one is no exception. There is
a small community that lives here and cares for the temple. Not my
best picture but water buffalo are exiting the lake on the right and a
woman washes clothes in the center.
|
The river flowing from the top of the mountain near the fort was dammed by
the rulers in various places. Here village women wash and children bathe.
