On July 16, two young leaders of the small town of Gretsiv , loaded with
camping gear struck out for a camping site near the Khmora River and
"The People In Nature" training.
|
A little behind are Wini, her tutor Svetlana and her daughter, Yuraslava.
I am there too behind the camera. I was invited to speak about effects of
litter and dumping on the environment.

|
It was a beautiful day and I tried to capture the charm and beauty of
Gretsiv and our path to the river. Geese and their young roam freely doing
their part in ridding the fields of weeks and insects.
|
These young turkeys enjoy the insects and help out the environment. In the
background you can see fruit trees growing on the other side of the hill.
|
Here, the individual strips of fields that make up the kitchen gardens.
Each strip for a different crop--wheat, potatoes, tomatoes, etc. Just a
reminder that these strips are spaded, raked, seeded and harvested all by
hand!
|
At this shaded spot on the river, everyone is assigned a job to get the
camp set up. The guys chop poles for the tents and set them up. The gals
prepare the food. I know it's sexist, but that's the way it works here.
|
The fire pit has to be dug out while others bring in wood.
|
Here Vasil shows Oleh how to dig out bank to form a pool to collect clean
spring water that feeds the river.
