Musings of an Ukraine Traveler

My new home! Korostyshiv

My cozy kitchen! That blue paint was just for me!

On the right is my kulunka (hot water heater). On the upper left window to bathroom.

You can see here the typical Ukrainian decorating scheme. wallpaper is usually in 3 to 4 different patterns. Ceilings are wallpapered too.

This is the type of broom used in the house. No handle. You can see the Chinese red enamel used on the wood floors along with carpet. I have bought a vacuum cleaner! Don't intend to haul the rugs to the courtyard and beat them. I live on 3rd floor and there are no elevators!

The light from the balcony washes out my living room in this picture. It is quite comfortable.

Here you can see a little better the mixture of wallpaper patterns. Somehow they all come together.

My bedroom. Hope to have both of these shelves filled with books before I leave.

My bed--very, very comfortable.

This bathroom is not a place you would want to lounge in, but it's serviceable. See the pipes. All apartments and homes have these. Hot water runs through them in winter and they are used for drying clothes. Very ingenious, I think.

This is plain ugly, I know. The shower curtain is covering a large hole and pipes in the wall. This is a Kruschev era apartment known for their shoddiness and cutting of corners by the Russian contractors.
