Musings of an Ukraine Traveler

Jaigarth and Nahargarh

Protecting Fort Amber (above) is Jaigarth.

All the forts had lakes like this one or cisterns that enabled them to withstand seiges.

A view of the river and Jaipur from the tower.

One of the few surviving cannon foundries can be found here. This cannon, Jai Vin, cast in 1726 is said to be the world's largest, but has never been fired.

The vast complex is Nahargarth, Tiger Fort, has a complex system of water collection which flows into this small lake. The inhabitants would walk down the ghats stairs, each day for ablutions.

We did some jewelry shopping in Jaipur and at a private showing Kelly tried on this $250,000 sapphire and diamond ring.         (Kelly)

One of the highlights of our trip was being invited to Himmat's father-in-laws home for dinner on the roof terrace where we were served a wonderful Indian meal.            (Kelly)

Himmat's gracious wife welcomed us. His daughter and son delighted us.
