Musings of an Ukraine Traveler

COS:  Closing of Service

On February 3, 2005, 60 Peace Corps Volunteers of Group 24 gathered at this Carpathian resort to learn the process of leaving service and to have fun.

On the path from the lobby to our rooms a black ram and a white ewe (picture Dolly the cloned sheep) would run out and bleat pitifully at us. What kind of snack food do you give sheep?

Every room was colorful and warm. Wini, Alice and I shared one last time. Being the youngest, I got to sleep on the rollaway bed. Very nice

I made Jennifer move so I could get a shot of the Van Gogh print. Van Gogh is Wini's favorite artist. Hmm, does this mean she really will get to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam.  Damn straight!

Every room faced the mountains. This is a mogul slope that I could see from our window. There are two runs and two tow bars along the tree line.

I caught this scene of the setting moon, the blowing snow from the snow maker at 6 am our first morning. You can see the light on the snow maker to the left.

At the base of the hill and in front of our room this elegantly lighted tree added to the quiet beauty of the setting.

Here come Alice and Wini arm in arm as all smart Ukrainians do to keep from slipping. It was cold but so crisp and beautiful every day of our stay.
