Musings of an Ukraine Traveler

From the Balcony

Look closely. Every morning this lively wren wakes me to life on the plaza. My apartment looks directly on the the center of my town Korostyshiv. I love everything I hear and see so take a short excursion with me. I only regret I can't get a shot of the swallows that zoom every morning and evening in front of the balcony.

Even with a load of wash hanging I can easily see the plaza and all that goes on.

Wedding receptions usually take place in the cultural center (white building).

This group is waiting to go into the park for pictures.

Not many people this morning but sometimes the plaza is quite crowded with bicycles , walkers, carts, etc

Lots of strollers cross the plaza. Cars are not supposed to, but they sometimes do.

Waiting for a friend. Peonies and jasmine are favorite gifts here.

This babushka will sell her peonies in the park.

Every morning at 5, I hear whisk, whisk as this babushka sweeps every scrap off the plaza.

Many women and men of all ages ride bicycles in our town. Bikes are simple, old style, no ten speeds and riders wear regular clothes for shopping or work.

Mom has just run into the apteka (drug store) while the family waits. These horse drawn carts cross the plaza almost as frequently as bicycles.

Looking up to the right from the park, you can see my balcony with as usual a load of wash hanging.. A little bit at a time is a lot easier by hand.
