Musings of an Ukraine Traveler

Ivano Frankisv: City of the west; city of many colors!

All of the churches are beautiful, but the entire St. Stanislaus complex is magnificent. St. Michaels on the right houses Byzantine are including wood painting, carvings and books dating from the 17th century.

On October 18-19, 2003 former graduates of Camp Rah Rah attended a training in further developing projects for their respective communities. I was fortunate enough to co-facilitate with Yulia Manuliak and Norri Symonds in Ivano-Frankisv. Two other conferences were held: one in Kharkiv and one in Vinnytsia.

The city is in the process of refurbishing all of its buildings. This one left for a war movie show what the outside of most of them looked like before.

It was a rainy day and I have lightened this as much as I can, but this is looking from the center down the pedestrian walk in the heart of Ivano-Frankisv.

This is better. Notice the combination of colors, of styles, the wrought iron balconies.

Now you can see the colors in the street tiles. The flower beds and trees. There are benches on which people can rest as they stroll.

Just to show you the other side of the street and the wonderful light posts. They work too. Ivano-Frankisv is a lively, free-spirited city, proud of its Ukrainian heritage and the language of its country.

The buildings are just as beautiful on any of the streets of the center.

On the next page are pictures of the students, our classes and the fun we had. On the third page, the students take us through memorial park on a lovely fall day.
