Musings of an Ukraine Traveler

My Day

For quite some time now I have thought about chronicling my day in a photo essay. When I told Wini Kissick about it, she took over and set up a schedule. I am really grateful to her for all the work. We had fun doing this and I hope you will enjoy it. I don't usually do all the things depicted here on the same day, but you will get the idea.

My day always begins with Rah waking me up. This is obviously fake because he would never let me sleep this late. Notice the light coming in the windows. He really does wake me up at the time I need to get up. He is a lot gentler than he used to be.

While eating breakfast, I always read the Kyiv Post, Newsweek or my professional journals. This morning I am having my favorite--kasha with banana and nuts.

While I eat my wash has been soaking. I'm decent in this shot. In reality, I usually am in my long johns only. The heating pipes and bending over this tub, gets hot. My rinse buckets are in the tub.

Hanging clothes can get precarious. Whoever put this line up was a lot taller than me. I like summer better where I can hang them on my balcony. Clothes do get dry fast with the pipes on and I can always put extra clothes on the radiators in the other rooms.

Here I'm ready to walk out the door with my posters and flip chars rolled up to make it easier to carry. I have my backpack on holding tape, scissors and whatever else I might need for teaching or working in the office.
