Musings of an Ukraine Traveler

The Prince, The Poet and the Faith

Polish Prince Gustav Olizar sits strong and proud craved in pink granite in the garden of the Polish Catholic Church.

The Catholic Church stands brilliant white at the end of the street, its towers and steeples restored in 1999. During the soviet reign all churches were closed and either destroyed or turned into a secular building. The towers were ripped off this church; it was painted pink and turned into a movie theater. The faith of the people never died and in spite of economic hardship, the faithful of all creeds are rebuilding their churches in Korostyshiv.

This Russian Orthodox Church struggles to rebuild. The hole for the foundation and a pile of granite waits at the left.

A very important person in any Ukrainian's life if the poet Taras Shevchenko. This small park on the west of the cultural center is dedicated to this promoter of Ukrainian freedom.

This Ukrainian Orthodox Church is almost finished. The small kiosk on the right sells religious articles and plays religious chants.
