Musings of an Ukraine Traveler

Transportation In Ukraine

Marshurtkas are privately owned, made in Ukraine, cost about 20 cents in town. They hold about 20 people uncomfortably. Have a route, but stop whenever you flag them down. For long routes between passengers are limited. Cost about $1 US.

Trolleybuses have definite routes, definite stops, cost about 5 cents to ride. They usually are very crowded.

Buses run on propane. See tanks on top. They have definite routes are pretty crowded and cost about 10 cents.

Electric  and diesel trains are the lifeline of this very large country. To go from Kyiv to Krech on the tip of the Crimea is a 24 hour ride. First class is nice if you want it--about $20 US.

Gas stations are frequent in towns and on the highways. They are modern, clean. The prices are in "grivna" So the top price here is about 50 cents USA.  Remember the average Ukrainian makes the equivalent of $80 a month or less..
