Musings of an Ukraine Traveler

Victory Day

May 9th is a very special holiday in Ukraine--The withdrawal of German troops from their land after more than 5 years of occupation. The citizens of this country remember and honor the courage of the soldiers, resistance fighters and ordinary citizens living and dead who suffered through the Third Reich!

Nina and Helen wait for the bus.

Children wait to give their flowers to the men and women who march.

Helen, Nina, Jason, the mayor, two soldiers and their great great grandson, Galina and Karen.

Heroes and children of heroes march behind the military band. I didn't get a picture of the decorated women.

Wreaths and hundreds of flowers are laid in front of the monument to end the day's ceremonies.

What's a holiday without a picnic in the park. Nina, Amit, Karen, Titania, Galina and Ludmilla.

Galina and Ludmilla get the cucumbers on the sandwiches!

Nina and Galina decided frisbee was their game!
