Project: Restoration

May 1, 2003: Odds 'n' Ends

Maybe you remember (and maybe you don't) the awful tires that I threw on the truck so that the original 25 year old tires wouldn't just spontaneously pop.

Today, I bought a nice new set of tires.  Now, nobody carries 6.50x16 bias ply tires anymore and that's probably a good thing.  Supposedly P215R16 radials will fit, but those are pretty scarce (and expensive).  So, I had Wal-Mart throw on a set of P225R16's and all is well again.

I guess it's probably hard to find much exciting about a new set of tires, but if you'd driven very far on the old 235/78R16's that were on this before, you'd appreciate the difference.  Not only can I actually steer fairly easy, but the ride is a hundred times smoother and quieter.  And as an added bonus, the speedometer is correct again!

New upholstery will run about $200.00, so I opted for the cheaper alternative:

Again, Wal-Mart proved the source for cheap auto parts.  The seatcover does double duty of keeping bits of foam from flying around the cab and also keeps the old, scratchy vinyl from chewing up my wife's legs!
